Jaipur
A theatre of pink stucco and lattice balconies. Palaces, observatories, and bazaars that hum past midnight.
The pink city is Rajasthan's most legible introduction — a Walled City laid out as a perfect grid in 1727, painted terracotta-pink for a state visit in 1876, and never repainted since. The four big monuments (Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar) are within a 15-minute drive of each other but each deserves its own slot; don't compress them into a day. Stay inside the Walled City if you want lanes and bazaars, or in C-Scheme if you want plane trees and quieter mornings. Jaipur is the natural base for a Rajasthan loop continuing to Pushkar, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer — three nights is the minimum.
