Ziro Beach 3

A 3km arc of pale sand and palm-and-tin shacks.

Curator's note

Ziro Beach 3 is that 3 km stretch of bleached sand where the tide is a punctual, indifferent thing and the only architecture is a rag‑tag row of palm‑thatched shacks selling fried fish on paper plates and, invariably, overpriced coconut water in plastic. Arrive at low tide, around 06:30 – 07:00, and you’ll have the whole strip to yourself; the morning light turns the sand a soft gold that photographs better than any Instagram filter. The most tolerable seat is the low wooden bench outside Shanti’s Shack on the north‑most bend; it’s the only spot with a shade canopy that isn’t a salvaged net, and the owner will grate fresh lime onto your chaats without a sales pitch. By mid‑morning the crowd thickens, the shacks start hawking gaana‑blasted souvenirs, and the sand becomes a sticky mess of sunscreen and seaweed. Skip the “sunset party” advertised on FB – the line for a cheap beer stretches for half a kilometre and the view is obstructed by a haphazard tent village that smells of diesel. The best two‑day window is October to early December, when the monsoon has retreated and the humidity is low enough to actually enjoy the sea breeze. Stay the night in the modest guesthouse at Ziro Main Road; the bus from Itanagar drops you off at 14:00, and a shared auto will get you to the beach in under ten minutes.

Tips
  • Go early; crowds peak by 11am
  • Local guides charge ₹500 — worth it for the stories
