Curator's note

Jaipur is a neon‑pink punch you either love or loathe, and the city’s size makes it a marathon, not a sprint. The non‑negotiable trio—Amber Fort’s sunrise ascent via the uphill elephant ride, the intricately latticed Hawa Mahal façade at mid‑day when the sun hits the pink façade just right, and the solemn grandeur of the City Palace complex (Mubarak Mahal, Chandra Mahal and the Mubarak Bagh garden) in the late afternoon—will eat up a full day if you linger over the museum’s Rajput artefacts. The best way to digest the chaos is to base yourself in the heritage hotel on MI Road or a boutique guesthouse in the Badi Chaupar lanes; both give easy access to the bustling bazaars of Johari, Tripolia and Bapu, where you can snag a genuine Kundan jewellery set or a cheap, glittery malpua from a street stall—just avoid the souvenir knock‑offs near the Hawa Mahal exit. A two‑day stay is honest; a third day lets you slip across the ring road to Jantar Mantar for the giant sundial and then wind down in the tranquil Zenana Mahal café on the opposite side of the palace. Skip the traffic‑gridlocked Circular Road in the afternoon, and steer clear of the monsoon months (July‑September) when the camel rides become a muddy slog. November to February is the only window when the desert heat is tolerable and the city’s pink glow looks intentional rather than scorching.
