Hill Fort Palace
Hill Fort Palace, also known as Ritz Hotel, is a royal palace located in Naubhat Pahad, Hyderabad, Telangana. The property is now owned by Government of Telangana, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation.
Hill Fort Palace, the gaudy relic the state now brands as a “heritage hotel” on the crest of Naubhat Pahad, feels less like a regal retreat and more like a costume‑shop for nostalgia junkies. The sandstone façade, salvaged from a 19th‑century Qutb Shahi palace, is impressive enough to merit a photo at sunrise, but the interior is a cramped mash‑up of colonial corridors, pastel wallpaper and a bar that serves a per‑plate chicken biryani you’ll find cleaner and cheaper in the old city. The only reason to book a night here is the rooftop view over the Mecca Masjid skyline at dusk – it’s the only spot where the city’s chaotic sprawl looks almost dignified. Stay in the nearby Banjara Hills boutique guesthouses instead; they’re quieter, cheaper and actually serviced. Skip the guided “royal walk” that repeats the same anecdotes about Nawabs you’ve heard in every heritage brochure. Visit in the cooler months of November to February; the hill’s wind whips away the stifling heat that makes the palace’s clap‑board rooms unbearable in summer.
