Haridwar Beach 2

A 3km arc of pale sand and palm-and-tin shacks.

Curator's note

Haridwar Beach 2 is the city’s half‑hearted attempt at a seaside, a three‑kilometre ribbon of pale sand that slides between the Ganga’s murky bend and a row of makeshift palm‑and‑tin shacks that look more like a seasonal market than a beach. Go in late November or early February, when the river’s current eases and the temperature drops below 30 °C; the monsoon will drown the shacks in mud and the summer heat will turn the sand into a scorching slab. Arrive at dawn and claim a spot under the lone blue‑painted umbrella near the old dhaba on the Bagat Kali lane – the early light turns the water a pale gold that the evening crowds never see. Skip the “sunset cocktail” stalls on the far west; they peddle plastic cups and overpriced chaats that taste like fried dough soaked in regret. The real draw is the modest river‑bank café on the eastern edge, where you can order a steaming cup of masala chai and a plate of aloo tikki while watching pilgrims in neon saris wade through the shallow water. A two‑hour stroll is enough to soak in the paradox of a beach in a holy city; anything longer feels like a forced meditation in mediocrity.

Tips
  • Go early; crowds peak by 11am
  • Local guides charge ₹500 — worth it for the stories
