Buddha Smriti Park, tucked behind the chaotic hum of Patna Junction on Frazer Road, is the kind of civic facelift that feels more like a political statement than a spiritual sanctuary. Designed by architect Vikram Lall, the park opens onto a neatly laid‑out cascade of water, a colossal bronze bust of the Buddha (gifted by the 14th Dalai Lama at the 2554th birth‑anniversary inauguration) and a series of concentric garden terraces that try hard to mask the squalor of the adjoining railway yards. The real draw is the modest stupa‑shaped meditation centre, where a quiet corner can be coaxed out at dawn if you time your visit before the commuter flood descends from Patna Junction at 07:30. Skip the overpriced tea stalls on Main Road – the on‑site cafeteria serves decent thali‑style fare for a fraction of the price. Stay at Hotel Maurya or the budget‑friendly Hotel Pacific, both within a ten‑minute rickshaw ride; they’ll get you to the park and back before the sunset rush. Two hours is enough to wander the landscaped paths, snap the photo‑op with the Dalai Lama’s plaque, and perhaps linger by the reflecting pool; anything longer feels like a polite way to suffer the heat and the inevitable traffic snarls. November to February is the only window when the extreme Patna summer won’t melt the marble steps, so plan accordingly and bring a bottle of water.
