Asman Garh Palace

Asman Garh Palace located in Malakpet, a suburb of Hyderabad, was a palace belonging to the Paigahs of Hyderabad State. The palace was declared a heritage structure by INTACH. Asman means "sky", and Garh means "home", since the palace was located so high on a hillock.

Curator's note

Asman Garh sits half‑forgotten on the Malakpet hill, a white‑washed relic of the Paigah aristocracy that forces you to decide whether a side‑trip from the Charminar is worth the detour. The palace’s name—sky‑home—is literal; the climb up the narrow, pothole‑strewn lane past Shakti Cinema feels more like a workout than a sightseeing plan, and the view from the terrace only justifies the effort, offering a surprisingly clear sweep of the old city’s domes when the haze lifts after sunrise. Inside, the faded frescoes and latticework are mostly hidden behind a rusted gate; INTACH’s plaque marks it as a heritage structure, but there is no staff, no information board, just the echo of your footsteps. If you’re staying in the Old City, skip the palace until you have a half‑day spare and a motorbike; otherwise, stick to the more accessible Paigah tombs at Afzal Gunj. Early November to late February is the only window when the hill isn’t blistering, and a chai from the roadside stall at the base makes the climb tolerable.
