The real draw is the sunrise terrace at 6:15 am, where a hot cup of locally sourced Assam tea and a plate of bhajia (fried onion pakoras) sit under a canopy of pine and the distant roar of the neighbouring waterfalls. Skip the “spa” – the treatment room is a converted storage space with a single humidifier, and the therapist is a part‑time yoga instructor who’ll happily lead a thirty‑minute session for free if you ask. Dinner is a simple thali of pork with bamboo shoots, served in the open‑air dining pavilion; the food is decent but the real flavour comes from the crackling fire and the fact that you’re eating above the clouds. One night is enough to taste the quiet, two lets you venture to the nearby living root bridges and return for a nightcap of Khasi rice wine.
