Vivanta Aizawl Suites

Suites in Aizawl. Misted, monastic, mountainous.

Why we picked it

Vivanta Aizawl Suites sits on an unobtrusive rise behind the city’s central market, a rare splash of polished glass in an otherwise wooden‑slated town that feels more monastery than metropolis. The best room is the Executive Suite on the ninth floor – a mezzanine of high‑ceilinged lounge, teak‑fitted work desk and a private balcony that catches the first mist over the Tlawng River at dawn; book it for a Thursday‑Saturday stay when the fog is thick enough to make the city look like a watercolor. Breakfast is the only thing that borders on tourism‑bait: the thukpa with locally sourced mushroom and a side of “Mizo‑style” banana leaf pickle are decent, but skip the “Mizo coffee” – it’s just instant, over‑sweetened brew. The hotel’s rooftop bar, “Cloud Nine”, is more useful for a quiet nightcap with a view of the Khasi hills than for cocktail‑hour networking; order the ginger‑lime mocktail and watch the city lights flicker as the mist recedes. Service is competent but not flamboyant; the front desk will arrange a Jeep to the National Botanical Garden, but expect a two‑hour wait for a driver in monsoon season. For a genuine taste of Mizoram, stay two nights: one to acclimatise to the altitude and another to explore the surrounding villages, then leave before the July–September downpour turns the roads into rivers.
